Roller Shutter Quote Comparison Checklist
Use this checklist when you have two or more written quotes in front of you. Tick each item for each installer. If a quote can't answer a question in writing, that's a flag.
Product spec
Slat profile is specified in writing
Foam-filled aluminium vs single-skin. Foam-filled is markedly better for heat and feel.
Slat width is appropriate for the window
Standard ~37 mm slats are fine to ~2.7 m wide. Larger windows need 55 mm or 75 mm slats.
Colour is confirmed
Standard powder-coat colours are usually included; custom colours add cost.
Headbox size and clearance are checked
There needs to be enough space above the window for the shutter to roll into.
Motor (electric only)
Motor brand is named (not "premium motor")
Somfy, Becker, Alpha, Nice. Major brands have parts available 10+ years later.
Wiring type is specified
Hard-wired, battery, or solar. Each has different cost, reliability and installation implications.
Control method is included
Wall switch, remote, app/hub. The number of remotes should be itemised.
Manual override is explained
How the shutter opens in a power cut. There should be a crank or cord.
Pricing & inclusions
Quote is fixed price, not "subject to site assessment"
Or, if conditional, the conditions are written out.
GST is included in the headline price
Some quotes show ex-GST. Add 10% to compare honestly.
Electrical work is included (for electric)
Or itemised separately so you can compare.
Removal of existing window dressings is included
Easy hidden extra. Confirm.
Rubbish removal is included
Especially for whole-house jobs.
Warranty, terms & installer
Product warranty is at least 10 years
In writing, with the manufacturer not just the installer.
Motor warranty is at least 5 years
For electric shutters. Major brands offer this as standard.
Installation labour warranty is in writing
Typically 1-2 years.
Deposit is 30% or less
Higher deposits are a red flag.
